The objective of the Engineering Field Program is to renew the Engineering & Operations competency by recruiting and developing future engineering experts and site-, business-, and functional leaders. We provide engineers with meaningful rotational work experiences to help them discover their passion and build their skill set.

A robust experience as a Field Engineer includes experiences in multiple areas, allowing better fulfillment of later business needs and a more fulfilling personal development experience. The Engineering Field Program lasts about 6 years. As a regular employee of DuPont, you will work in different businesses, in different countries, in at least three different assignments in Engineering, Operations, Technology and/or Business.

The Field Engineering position we offer here is for a first assignment as Project/ Plant Engineer for our ICL plant in Asturias. You will be integrated in the plant organization to strengthen the Engineering capability executing projects at the ICL plant at Asturias. Focus will be on Project engineering. As the role is integrated in the operational organization you will also work as Plant Engineer, leading improvement programs in maintenance/operations and/or lead a Process Safety element.

The Project Engineer has full responsibility to deliver capital projects (CAPEX) that meet the business objectives from capital project definition to project execution (basic data preparation, detailed design, procure & construct, commissioning and start-up of new facilities). This is a leading role which requires high flexibility and adaptability to work at several levels.

The Plant Engineer provides engineering support to Operations with focus on maintain and improve type of activities, ranging from leading Process Safety elements and/or leading improvement programs.

The combination of Project- and Plant Engineering brings a lot of variety to the role, thus a great learning experience.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the execution of Capital Projects per the applicable Engineering principles. He / She is accountable for the full project execution (safety, scope, schedule, budget and quality).

  • Supports the development process to obtain approval of the Business objectives with the Steering Team. Regularly engages the Steering Team to ensure alignment with Business needs and functional direction, makes strategic project decisions and provides status updates.

  • Assesses Project Team functional capability, identifies expertise gaps within the Project Team and solicits the Steering Team for necessary staffing support.

  • Provides leadership for an effective and cohesive Project Team by ensuring roles, responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood, workloads are reasonable, cross-function communications are adequate, and personality conflicts are managed. Engages outside consultants when needed to support the Team.

  • Leads the Team in identifying non-capital alternatives or lower capital options, using the appropriate analytical and brainstorming tools to present opportunities to the Business, following Best Practices/Standard Procedures, evaluating scope options, conducting risks analyses and developing mitigation plans.

  • Ensures excellence in adherence to Process Safety Management, Safety Health Environmental, Mechanical Integrity and Quality Assurance and other Core Value Standards.

  • Performs economic evaluations, prepares funding requests, expenditures forecasts and ensures necessary financial reporting and accounting is performed.

  • Serves as the Owner’s Guardian to ensure necessary Engineering processes are followed by both DuPont and Contractors. Champions the “no change philosophy” and ensures only changes consistent with the Business and Project Objectives are approved.

  • Ensures site teams are staffed and leads the project team in developing and implementing Ready to Operate activities of commissioning and startup through initial operation of facility.

  • Defines and analyzes KPI’s to insure overall performance expectations for the Project are met, and communicates results to the Steering Team and appropriate Stakeholders.

  • Responsible for the development and implementation of Project Quality Plans, including Auditing work processes.

  • Leading one Process Safety Management (PSM) element

  • Leading improvement programs in maintenance / operations.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Mechanical-, Electrical-, Process- or Chemical Engineering.

  • Fluency in Spanish and English, and in one other European language would be an asset

  • 0-2 years of work experience.

  • Technical competence proven by internships or first assignment.

  • Flexible and mobile at a European level.

  • Proven record of self-development and active learning.
