The Dow Chemical Company has an opening for aSupport and Sustain Engineer(m/f)located in*Tarragona, Spain. *
The position is part of the Process Automation Discipline in Engineering, within TES organization, covering Support and Sustain areas of responsibility. The candidate will be a team member of the Support and Sustain team working locally in Tarragona (Spain), supporting business partners. The candidate will also perform project assignments that provide Process Information system configuration, design, development, and support to projects executed in the Iberica Region, mainly in Tarragona Site.
The Support and Sustain personnel provide preventative maintenance and troubleshooting support for the global installed base of process automation systems (ABB servers, CROS, GPI, MES, etc). They also support the implementation of new instances of these systems. Their key objective is to minimize plant downtime caused by process automation system failures, while providing services that are cost effective and sustainable.
Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES).
Work as part of an integrated team to support Process Information (PI) and Production Operations Management system applications, both in-house and commercial.
Troubleshoot process information and network problems (software and hardware) to resolve process information system problems.
Provide telephone and site support to diagnose and resolve system problems in operating chemical production units.
Test and develop new applications to support chemical manufacturing facility process information needs.
Provide training of chemical manufacturing facility operations personnel (i.e. quality, safety, process control, run plant and environmental personal).
Perform predictive and preventative maintenance (PPM) and health checks on operating process automation systems. These activities follow standard recommended procedures, but the involved personnel must be able to discern and correct potential problem areas before they lead to a system failure. This work is performed to ensure the process automation system performs as reliably as possible – a system failure could lead to a production shut-down and significant economic loss. Time allocation = 20%
Provide corrective support in response to a process automation system error condition or failure. Support and Sustain personnel provide the first point of escalation when faults occur and put plant operations at risk. Immediate action is often required to diagnose and resolve these problems. This support might local or global, requiring the global support a higher level of skills and understanding of the process automation systems. As part of this support they might need to open tickets with C-DCS suppliers, participate in root cause investigations of the failure of process automation systems as well as in the development of incident reports. Time allocation = 50%
Complete small project work. Process automation systems are undergoing constant change as control points are added, configurations are modified, and hardware or software is updated. Execution of this work requires detailed technical knowledge of the system in respect of the operating environment to ensure that improvements or enhancements are implemented with no negative impact on plant operations. Time allocation = 20% (in a site that is doing Mod Migration or due to ABB system upgrades, this percentage may increase)
Provide training and knowledge transfer. It is essential that case and other experiential data is captured and communicated across the support network in order to continuously build the skills of the Dow support organization. Consultations with plant operations and maintenance staff also greatly facilitate their efforts to work with and support the systems. Time allocation < 5%
Project Planning & Execution:
Work with MES Project Leads, Designers/Developers, Manufacturing Representatives, Process Control Engineers, Environmental Engineers, and Process Safety Engineers to develop, configure and implement.
Process Information installations.
Ability to detect, assess and analyze complex problem situations within the process automation and process information environment and peripheral systems.
Hands-on work in the field is often required.
Main support responsibilities:
Install, update and maintain standard Process Information (PI) software and applications.
Support customization of the above to plant specific needs.
Provide break fix and coordinate emergency situations due to Process Information (PI) hard- and software failures. Coordinate internal, customer and 3rd party communication and resolution action.
Perform PI system changes, rollups, extensions etc. on customer demand.
Provide help and basic training to customers and peers.
Perform direct customer support at location but also remotely by telecommunication means.
Granting of data access privileges in coordination with the data owner.
Ensure regular backups of systems and databases and coordinate recovery of lost data.
Maintain relevant system parameters for clean-ups, disk space recovery, preventive maintenance frequency etc.
Develop and document basic support procedures to automate/improve support work where applicable. Participate in maintaining a resolution database.
Keep vital communication with direct customers to timely react on requested changes, additions and extensions.
Participate in regular area and global meetings with the goal to increase personal and group support performance.
Participate in Support Work Process development activities and projects.
Provide data to ensure proper staffing, performance management and statistical needs.
Regularly participate in trainings to widen and maintain personal technology skill set.
Work/collaborate with implementation teams to setup PI systems and application.
Eventually participate in development teams to provide input on locally specific know how.
Participate in regular 7 by 24 support periods (on-call) to ensure global coverage of high priority customer requests. On-call frequency is determined by number of participants in the respective time zone and the desire to equally distribute the burden over as much participants as possible. Where applicable coordination is required to combine global on-call with local 7/24 periods.
- This is for a full-time position, requiring some on-call and after hours responsibilities.
Must be able to be on call for some evenings and weekends for a local and, in the future, global rotating call schedule.
The work site is located at the Dow Tarragona Site. The candidates must reside within normal driving distance of the Dow site.
Master in Electrical / Computer Science or equivalent industry experience
Experience with Microsoft Windows Servers is required.
Knowledge of at least one standard programming or query language is required (example SQL, JAVA, C# or .NET).
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power Point), Microsoft Outlook is also required.
Good communication (written and verbal) and language skills is required.
Must have good telephone skills demonstrating active listening abilities.
Must have knowledge and experience with Systems Installations and Support work processes and services, computer systems, networks and servers.
Ability to prioritize and plan daily work is essential.
Experience with planning, scheduling and executing small projects and related tasks.
Ability to meet minimum safety training requirements and apply safety standards
Able to work well in high stress, time-critical work situations.
Must be willing and able to lift a minimum of 25 Kg.
A minimum requirement for this Spain based position is the ability to work legally in Europe. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of EU permanent residency proces
Experience on Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), Process Automation/Information is preferred.
Programming for Process Automation applications like Control Systems, Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), Process Information or similar programming is preferred.
Computer hardware knowledge would be beneficial.
Knowledge of VAX systems using VMS is beneficial.
Experience supporting client and servers using AspenTech manufacturing suite is also preferred.
