SUMMARY OF JOB:

The System Administrator (SA) is responsible for provisioning, installation..onfiguration, operation, and maintenance of systems (virtual and physical), software and related infrastructure. Responsible for operations in the cloud, including but not limited to ec2, elb, ebs and security groups. Establishes and maintains security integrity controls. Formulates and monitors policies, procedures and standards relating to system administration. May direct the following: troubleshooting, recovery, tuning of the operating system, software installation and upgrades, auditing activities, and resource utilization.

Having wide-ranging experience using professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways. Some barriers to entry exist at this level (i.e., dept/peer review). Level at which career may plateau.

Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Networks with key contacts outside own area of expertise.

Typically requires a minimum of 4 years of related experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

  • Builds virtual machines on AWS and VMware technology

  • Define and troubleshoot security groups to allow proper flow of information

  • Ensures all infrastructure adheres to the policies put forth by Global Security and Cloud Architecture teams

  • Oversees and coordinates OS patching on a monthly basis. Ensures that servers are compliant with the patching policies

  • Collects and reviews system data for capacity and planning purposes. Analyzes capacity data and develops capacity plans for appropriate level enterprise-wide systems

  • Supports the design and configuration of complex system landscapes

  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviews system logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups

  • Develops and maintains appropriate system documentation to ensure that documentation is current. Oversees the maintenance of a library of system-supporting process and procedure documentation

  • Interacts with client management to answer questions, problems and requests regarding complex system issues

  • Incident Management / Root cause analysis / Problem Management

  • Create/terminate user accounts

  • Assist application teams with firewall rules..ssues

  • Provide ongoing training to support teams, as necessary

  • Maintain/update all appropriate documentation

  • Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning

  • Confer with Database and Application Administrators to ensure proper backup and restore procedures are in place

  • Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades and resource optimization as required

EDUCATION—MINIMUM REQUIRED LEVEL:

BS Computer Science or related degree

EXPERIENCE—MINIMUM REQUIRED:

4 Years IT Experience

6 Years IT Experience without minimum education prerequisites.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS 1—REQUIRED:

Includes:

Linux System Administration (RHEL/OEL/CENTOS)

Windows System Administration (2008 / 2012)

Amazon EC2 experience; troubleshooting, snapshot, recovery, elb, security group etc

System Automation using scripting; Bash, Powershell,Perl etc.

Good knowledge of OS patching, LVM, NFS

HP-UX Administration

AWS cli experience

Active Directory

SAN Administration

1+ years Database Administration

Spacewalk or RHEL Satellite server

Networking concepts

Familiarity with BMC Remedy ITSM suite

TRAVEL:

International Travel possible. 1-2 per year
